Base Ramadan Campaign Video: A Creative Journey

Working with Base Cosmetics, they always allow us to approach projects in an unconventional and unique way, something that is very different from traditional beauty commercial norms. The Base Ramadan Campaign Video was no different, embracing vintage vibes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, mixing in modern techniques for a touch of humor.

Conceptualization and Storyboarding

Our process began by mapping out the story alongside the script and rough sketches. This helped us visualize the shots and overall look of the video. The rough sketches turned into a storyboard, serving as a guide for our Storyboard Artist, Apollo. We then refined and colored the frames while sticking to the agreed-upon style and color palette.

Stillomatic and Editing

Following the "stillomatic" approach, our Editor, Verell, and I used polished storyboard frames as a visual guide for the entire video. Choosing the right songs and recording a temporary voiceover were crucial for syncing with the envisioned beat. Once approved by the client, the stillomatic became the reference for our team's collaboration.

Production and Shoot Day

Printed storyboards played a crucial role in planning the shoot, guiding the composition on the actual shoot day. The stillomatic helped direct camera movements, clip durations, and actors' voiceovers, ensuring a smooth production process.

Conclusion

In the familiar workflow in Otherlands, our storyboarding and stillomatic process greatly eased production and editing, resulting in a visually captivating and uniquely themed commercial that aligns with Base's commitment to unconventional beauty norms.
